Money boxes now show commas and the right currency sign

Every money box in NETICS now adds thousands separators as you type and shows the record's currency sign, so NGN 2,500,000 is easy to check before you save it.

Type 2500000 into a plain number box and you have to count the zeros to be sure it is two and a half million and not two hundred and fifty thousand. One missing zero on a supplier payment or a salary is a real problem, and it is easy to miss on a phone screen at the end of a long day.

A client's staff told us exactly that on 18 October, as they started entering their records in NETICS: they were counting zeros to avoid mistakes. So every money box in the console now groups the digits as you type and shows the currency sign in front.

What changed

Type 2500000 and the box shows ₦2,500,000. Keep typing a decimal point and two digits and it shows ₦2,500,000.50. The commas appear while you type, and the cursor stays where you are, so editing the middle of a figure does not throw you to the end.

The sign in front is the record's own currency. An order in naira shows ₦. A quotation in dollars shows $. Any ISO currency works: ₦, $, £, €, KSh, GH₵ and the rest come from your browser's currency data, and a code with no common sign shows the code itself. When a box has no record currency to go by, it uses your workspace currency from Settings, which is NGN unless you changed it.

Where you will see it

The same box is used across the console:

  • Orders: item prices and the discount amount, in New order and Edit order.
  • Quotations and service visits in My Enterprise.
  • Invoices, payments and expenses in ERP Route > Finance, including "VAT included, if any" on an expense and the amount when you record a payment.
  • Products in NETICS CRM.
  • Inventory: what each item costs.
  • Procurement: prices on purchasing records.
  • Approvals: amounts on requests that need a decision.
  • Subscriptions and Projects.
  • Salaries on Employees, which feed Payroll.

Quantity boxes are not money and stay plain numbers. The Percent option on a discount is a plain box with a % sign.

How it behaves

A few details that save time:

  • Pasting works. Paste "NGN 2,500,000.00" from a spreadsheet or a bank message and the box keeps the number and drops everything else.
  • Two decimal places at most, for kobo and cents. A third digit after the point is ignored.
  • Leading zeros go. Typing 0050000 gives ₦50,000.
  • Phones get the number keypad, so you are not hunting for digits on a full keyboard.

What did not change

Only the way amounts look while you type. Amounts are saved exactly as before, so reports, CSV exports, invoices, webhooks and the API see the same numbers they always did. Finance still keeps money in kobo as whole numbers, so nothing is lost to rounding.

One limit worth knowing: an invoice you create from scratch in Finance uses your workspace currency, because the invoice form has no currency picker. An invoice raised from an order or a quotation keeps that record's currency, and its boxes show that sign.

Why it matters

Money mistakes in a business are rarely about arithmetic. They are about reading a long figure quickly and getting it slightly wrong. A comma every three digits and the right sign in front make a wrong amount look wrong before it is saved, sent to a customer or paid to a supplier.

It also matters for businesses that bill in more than one currency. A Lagos importer quoting a supplier in dollars and a customer in naira can see at a glance which is which, on the form itself.

This arrived on the same day as discounts on orders, quotations and invoices. To see how money moves from an order to an invoice, see Orders and payments and ERP and Finance.

Finance and ERP in NETICS: from invoices to payroll

Invoices, payments, expenses, suppliers, stock, purchasing and payroll all live in the ERP Route of NETICS, next to the customers and orders they come from.

Customers now hear when their order ships and arrives

When you move an order to Out for delivery or Delivered, NETICS tells the customer on WhatsApp or SMS, once, with the carrier's tracking link.

Variants: a photo, price and stock for every colour

Give each choice of a product its own photo, price, wholesale price, stock count and SKU. Your website, NETICS's chat, orders and stock all follow the exact variant.
